Frederick Stanley Upton (June 20, 1890 - June 11, 1986) and Louis Cassius Upton (October 10, 1886 - October 9, 1952) were brothers who founded the Whirlpool Corporation.

Early lives
Louis was born on October 10, 1886 and Frederick was born on June 20, 1890, to parents Carrie A. (née Blodgett) and Cassius Marcellus Upton, in Battle Creek, Michigan. Frederick and Louis had three sisters.

Education
Frederick Upton graduated from Lyons Township High School in LaGrange, Illinois.
Upton Machine Company
Louis and Frederick, along with their uncle Emory, founded the Upton Machine Company in 1911. The company engaged in the manufacture of electric washing machines. The Upton Machine Company became the Nineteen Hundred Corporation in 1929, before becoming the Whirlpool Corporation in 1950.
Personal life
Frederick was married to Margaret Mather (Beckley) (1895 - 1975) for 58 years. The couple had 4 children, 16 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. The couple founded the Frederick S. Upton Foundation in 1954, giving millions of dollars to their communities. Grandson Fred Upton was elected to the United States House of Representatives and, in the 112th Congress, was chairperson of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. Great-granddaughter Kate Upton is an American model and actress known for her appearances in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.
Frederick Upton died on June 11, 1986.
Louis was married to Elizabeth Fogg (1889 - 1978), with whom he had 4 children and 4 grandchildren. He died on October 9, 1952, one day shy of his 66th birthday.
